Powernet and Gift1 donated new Android tablets to the St. James Child Development Center in Westwood this morning to replace tablets that were stolen in a break-in at the daycare last week.
“I saw about the break-in on the news and thought we would be able to help out,” said Joe Bradley, the Powernet Church and Non-Profit Account Executive that spearheaded the donation effort. “Our management team was very supportive of the idea and basically said to give [St. James] whatever they needed, so that’s what we did.”
The robbery occurred last Thursday night/early Friday morning. Various members of the community have reached out to St. James with their support, including individual contributors and neighborhood businesses. In addition to the tablets, televisions and money the children had earned from field trip fundraisers were also taken.
“You hate to hear about someone basically stealing from children,” said Bradley, who is also a preacher at 2nd Chance Ministries Christian Worship Center. “It especially hits home when it’s in your own backyard, so it was great to come down here and put smiles back on these kids’ faces.
“It just goes to show you the actions of a few criminals are no match for the spirit and goodwill of a whole community, and we hope the children at St. James saw that this week.”
